This month marks the celebration of Mexican Independence. Festivities take place over two days, starting on the 15th of September when the President of Mexico re-enacts El Grito from the balcony of the National Palace in Mexico City by ringing the same bell Hidalgo rang in 1810. On the 16th, Mexicans celebrate with fireworks, parades, and fiestas with family and friends. So, get ready to party!
This month also marks the very first Art Issue of Luxepatriate, and we’re totally thrilled to present some of the most fascinating people, excursions, and workshops in the city. We’ll begin by honoring the work of the magnificent Frida Kahlo, whose personal letters and drawings are on exhibition in a private home in San Miguel. And we’ll introduce you to three individuals who are shaping the scene here in town: Greg Reitman, Founder of Yo San Miguel Gallery; Mariana Barran Goodall, Founder of Hibiscus Linens & Hotel Amparo; and artist Lynne Gleason, a longtime expat who spent 12 years in London up close and personal with the Royal household.
Since we know you’re feeling inspired, get out there and take a tour of local artists’ studios with Arturo Esparza of Art Tours SMA. Then, nurture your own creative spirit by following artist and teacher Karen Kinney’s Four Steps to Finding Your Own Creative Voice. And finally, sign up for a class or two on our list of art classes in San Miguel. Who knew you were such an excellent ceramicist?!
We’ve left you with one final post on a special dish to help you celebrate Dia de Independencia, the traditional red, white, and green Chiles en Nogadas. Be sure to tag us in your celebration photos!
