The interesting thing about living in an expat haven is that when summer hits, we all scatter at about the same time. From river cruises in Europe for a parent’s eightieth birthday, to partying like a rock star in Ibiza, to making a religious pilgrimage via the Camino de Santiago in Spain, expats in San Miguel know how to travel. In fact, it’s our love of travel and adventure that likely called us to move here in the first place. Travel challenges us to reflect on our day to day existence, to feel alive and connected. There is simply no substitute.
In this month’s Expat Spotlight, we visit with tastemaker and entrepreneur about town, Jaime Pesanti, about her inspired journey to source fair trade goods for her shops and vacation homes. We also follow our friend (and YouTube star) Erin Bond as she reclaims herself while traveling with a young child. Her words of wisdom are invaluable regarding travel with the little ones.
We’ve also included our personal travel itineraries for the summer. Nicole took her in-laws on their first trip to Italy, playing with baby goats and taking cooking classes in Tuscany along the way. Martha ate, shop, and danced her way through the Big Easy with her best friends from college and compiled her experience into the ultimate New Orleans travel guide. Lastly, we’ve included a short shopping guide for where to find travel necessities here in San Miguel, from biodegradable sunscreen to chic passport covers, we’ve got you covered.
And so, while this issue has been a long time coming, travel was necessary in order to write it. Sometimes, we just need to recharge and live life a little bit in order to write about it! We hope you are excited about your upcoming adventures and will share them with us. Be sure to tag us in your photos on Instagram!
